Audition Dates at Sioux Center Library, Meeting Room A
We are hosting open auditions, so you may come at any point within the audition time frame. No need to sign up for a specific time. If you hope to audition, but cannot make the audition times, please contact Kaitlyn at

Thursday, September 10 from 6-9pm
Saturday, September 12 from 2-5pm

Arriving on Audition Day
You will enter the library through the main entrance, turn right, and meet with our assistant stage manager outside Meeting Room A. You will receive an audition form to fill out (this may be filled out in advance by printing out the form
here.) Participants will wait in the hallway until the casting team is ready to see you.
The Audition
Your individual/group closed audition will be held in Meeting Room A. The director (Jess Giannantonio), producer (Kaitlyn Morley) and stage manager (Katie Crumrine) will be present to see you act and guide you in the process. You will be given some scenes/monologues from the show to read. Those scenes/monologues can be found
here if you would like to practice ahead of time. Stage presence, vocal tone, emotion and range are important aspects of your audition. Be prepared for the audition to last 30 minutes.
Character Descriptions (including age requirements)
Frank Gianelli (age 50-80): Aida's husband and Nick's maternal grandfather. He is a nostalgic, first-generation Italian who never quite left the old country behind in his heart. Protective of his family, he's the chief schemer when it comes to keeping Nick in New Jersey.
Aida Gianelli (age 50-80): Frank’s wife and Nick's maternal grandmother. A traditional, deeply loving matriarch who shows her affection almost entirely through cooking and feeding her family. She worries constantly about Nick being alone and is desperate to see him settle down.
Nunzio Cristano (age 50-80): Emma’s husband, Nick's paternal grandfather. A warm-hearted, retired blue-collar worker who leans into his Italian-American roots. He is deeply committed to family tradition and enjoys telling massively exaggerated stories.
Emma Cristano (age 50-80): Nunzio’s wife and Nick's paternal grandmother. She acts as the emotional center and the peacemaker of the group, though she is entirely on board with the collective plan to keep her grandson close.
Nick Cristano (age 20-35): The lead character. A single, 20-something marketing executive who has loyally spent every Sunday having dinner with both sets of grandparents. When he is offered a major promotion in Seattle, he is caught between chasing his career goals and his overwhelming guilt about leaving his family.
Caitlin O’Hare (age 20-35): A young Irish-American woman and nurse. She is invited to Sunday dinner by the grandparents as a secret "blind date" setup to keep Nick in New Jersey. She is outspoken, and finds the grandparents' behavior charming.
After the Audition
You will be contacted by Saturday evening (September 12) if you are requested for a callback. A callback does not guarantee a role in the production. Similarly, not all cast members will receive a callback. It simply means the directing team needs to see you again to finalize their decisions. Those who audition will hear final casting results via email by Tuesday, September 15 at the latest. Rehearsals will start that week.
Important Dates and Expectations
The following are dates that attendance IS required:
First read-through: Thursday, September 17
Q2Q Tech Rehearsal: Saturday, November 14
Dress Rehearsals and Performances: November 16-21
Rehearsals will typically occur Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays from 7-10pm. Additional rehearsals will happen as we get closer to performances.
Actors will be expected to attend rehearsals when they are called according to the schedule. If you are unable to attend a rehearsal, you must contact our Stage Manager long in advance of your absence at a particular rehearsal.
This will be a huge time commitment, but making theater magic is always worth the time.
